Small Investments Yield Big Impacts

Little by little WorldServe micro business opportunities are helping change the economic landscape in Cuba. Believers who become small businesses owners through micro business are able to support their families while also giving to the local church, which then effects increased opportunity for outreach to the community and beyond. Some business owners are even able to share the blessing of micro business by employing other church members.

Once a loan is paid off, the capital goes back into the micro business budget to fund another project. In this way, the blessing of micro business just keeps on giving. WorldServe currently has a list of more than 80 approved projects waiting in a queue for funding. View the projects currently at the front of the queue here on our community page: http://community.worldserve.ca/category.aspx?asset=16

Funding just one project will eventually turn into another and another and another. It’s a great way to get the ball rolling to impact many lives, not only in the practical realm, but also in the spiritual realm, as evangelical churches in Cuba are in earnest about reaching those around them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Project 112: Raising Chickens

Luis attends the Methodist church in his community of Matanzas. He has applied for a $500 loan to raise chickens. The money will help him set up the pens and buy his first batch of chicks. He will sell them in the local market when they are big enough. Profits will pay him a salary on which he is committed to give a portion back to his church. Luis provides for his own family, including his mom and dad.

Project 123: Raising Pigs

Pastor Ignacio lives sacrificially to serve the church in an impoverished region of eastern Cuba. To be able to feed his family as he reaches out to his community with the gospel, he wants to raise pigs as a means of vital support. For about $1,000 Pastor Ignacio can set up a pig farm, including holding pens and all of the other necessary equipment for running a successful operation. Project 124: Growing Rice

Carlos wants to raise rice crops. One of the main staples in the Cuban diet is a dish of rice and beans. Rice in Cuba is mostly grown along the western coast, but there are other means of growing rice, such as the Vietnamese model being used in Cuba (pictured here). There are two crops per year. For $900 Carlos can get his micro business started and be able to support not only his own family, but also the ministry of the Baptist church he belongs to.

Project 132: Soft-Drink Vendor

Juan plans to sell soft drinks, an enterprise that will generate sufficient income to support two families. For $500 Juan can get his micro business started, which will also give him the ability give tithes and offerings to the ministry of the Assembly of God church he belongs to in Cienfuegos.
